John Hancock was the first one to sign the Declaration of Independence and all the other members signed it later.
Well, firstly John Hancock was the governor of the colonial Massachusetts and also the president of the Congress. It is believed that there was no ceremonial process for the signing of the document that was sent to King George. There was only a fair copy which was signed by the members and sent to the Dunlap Publishers for printing but it was destroyed. So, a second version was published in which signatures of John Hancock were actually printed on the Declaration and not signed. So, he is considered as the first delegate to do so.
