Aligarh is the story of a professor, Siras (Manoj Bajpayee) who get suspended from his job because of his sexual orientation. The movie talks about the condition of gays and lesbians in India. It depicts how in India we still haven’t accepted gays whole-heartedly and see them under an entirely different light. The director has tried to deliver a very powerful message through the movie, i.e., gay is just a sexual orientation, and someone shouldn’t be judged or looked down upon for being one. Being gay is as normal as being straight; it doesn’t make them any less of a human.
