The IIT Council in its meeting held in October 2015 has constituted a Committee of Eminent Persons to suggest ways for improving the system of JEE Main 2017. The Committee has, after due consultation with the stakeholders, has submitted its report to Government, recommending, among other things, to do away with the weightage given to the 12 Class examination marks in the JEE (Mains) ranking.

The report of the Committee was examined in consultation with the stakeholders and the Departments of the School Education / Higher Education and the following changes have been approved by the Chairman IIT Council in the JEE 2017 New Pattern.

#1 No weightage for the class 12 marks in calculating the ranks in the JEE Main 2017 exam.

#2 For the candidates to qualify for admission in the IITs / NITs / IIITs and such other CFTIs whose admissions are based on the JEE ranks, they should have secured at least 75% marks in the 12th Class exam, or be in the top 20 percentile in the 12 class exam conducted by the respective Boards. For SC / ST students the qualifying mark would be 65% in the 12 Class exam.

There is no other change in the JEE examination system for 2017.

JEE Main 2017 Exam Pattern

JEE Main 2017 shall have two papers. Candidates may take Paper-1, or Paper-2, or both as per the course(s) they are seeking admission to. JEE Main Paper 1 is for BE / B.Tech, Paper 2 is for B.Arch . B.Planning. Both the papers are of 3 hours duration each. Engineering aspirants must attempt Paper 1 and Architecture aspirants can go for Paper 2.

Paper 1 has objective type with equal weightage to Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics. Paper 2 has objective type questions for Mathematics (Part I) and Aptitude Test (Part II). Questions to test drawing aptitude are asked for Drawing Test (Part III)

Please note that Paper 1 will be held in offline and online modes, both. Whereas Paper 2 will be held only offline.
