While Novak Djokovic has had lost 2 times in the French Finals coming into this year’s slam, this year’s Rolland Garros final marked the first appearance of Andy Murray, qualifying to French open final for the first time in his career. Murray also became the first British singles player to make the French finals after 1937. The expectations from the match were huge and while it was really hard to pick a winner; we tried to evaluate the prospect of what may happen and in our final preview we predicted a 4-setter in which Djokovic wins.

The first set began with great anticipation and it was Djokovic who first broke Murray’s serve – in the latter’s very first service game in the match but it wasn’t long before Murray broke back to put his hold on the court and surpass Djokovic’s excellence to give an indication into his strong mindset coming into the match. Murray was soon leading 4-1 and from there on; it was looking extremely difficult for Djokovic to come back into the set and that’s just what transpired – the first set in the final belonged to Murray with 3-6.

It seemed as if Djokovic’s dream of a career slam might just have to wait another year as the momentum was quick to shift onto Murray’s side in 1st set. The crowd supported the Serbian in Djokovic, who they wanted to accomplish a great career goal and they knew that losing twice and coming back in hope to win another isn’t easy – but saying that, the pressure had clearly been put on Djokovic early in this huge match.
A true champion is made in challenges and times of trouble, it’s during these times that a champion truly stands up and delivers on the expectations that he has from himself. Djokovic just like a true champion fought back and made everyone in the stadium and following on tv realize as to why he truly is a very special player in tennis’s history.
The first service game of the 2nd set was held onto by Djokovic but just – the hold of serve gave Djokovic the much needed confidence coming into a new set and this confidence transpired into winning momentum in the 2nd game of the 2nd set in which Djokovic broke Murray – from this moment on the final changed.
The 2-0 leading changed into 4-1 with amazing showcase of fitness, backhand and crosscourt drop-shot; the Djoker was posing great troubles to the British and with the crowd on his side, it all soon started to take a toll on Murray who was slowly slipping out of the match.
Djokovic raced through the 2nd set with a 6-1 win and the third set had a similar story with 2 breaks of serve off Murray resulting in 2-1 lead in the final for Djokovic.
By the time 4th set started, Djokovic had the upper hand on Murray who was looking visibly fatigue in the energy soaking final. Djokovic was up 5-2 in the final set and the history was just a few moments away but the tension started to get onto Djokovic who got his serve broken and the scoreline suddenly went from 5-2 to 5-4 but Djokovic was still serving for the match and without any further hiccups, the Serbian seized the moment and won his first French Open – thus completing an all-slam, finding himself in one of the rare of the rarest elite club of tennis stars.
