It’s not easy to live in India if you’re one of the millions of persons with special needs. There are not enough ramps for wheelchairs, pavements are utterly unfriendly to people who are blind, public transport buses and taxis don’t have special facilities and there are a million of other day-to-day, minute-by-minute problems that people with special needs face in India. But maybe more than all these structural problems like ramps and access issues – people with special needs say that the biggest obstacle to their inclusion in everyday society is the crass and backward mental attitude that sections of our society have towards them.
A video uploaded on Facebook, shows a blind man attempting to navigate the streets in the city by himself. And while it isn’t clear whether the video is some kind of social experiment, it does show the gentler side of the Mumbai People who went out of their way to help him.
