Wimbledon 2016 Day 11 Results

The day 11^th of Wimbledon was the most crucial for the men’s draw with the tournament reaching it’s penultimate stage, that of the semi-finals. After 10 days of intense tennis action, ups and downs – exits and qualifications, the lucky 4 got to this stage – Raonic,Federer, Murray and Berdych.

The first match on the center court was that of the Swiss legend Roger Federer vs the hugely improved Canadian in Milos Raonic – who appointed John McCenroe prior to Wimbledon for his coaching and it seems that the legend is making great amends to his game, the serve looks improved; the net points are much in favor of Raonic and he looks mentally strong to fight out tough situations. Also to mention, he’s reaching the net quite often and this shows sign of an aggressive gameplay – aptly suited to Wimbledon’s grass court tennis.

Roger Federer vs Milos Raonic

Raonic’s match against Federer was testimony to his improved game. Federer got broke in the 1^st set but broke back in the next game, there was another break of Raonic’s serve and the Swiss was soon leading 1-0 with a 6-3 win in the first. The second set was on serve till 6-6, after which a tie-break followed. Considering that Raonic is primarily a serve-game player, it was expected that he’ll be favorite in the tie-break, which was just the case. Federer only managed 3 points as opposed to Raonic’s 7, the latter winning the 2^nd and leveling match at 1-1 with 7-6 (3) win in the 2^nd set.

The 3^rd set was again about Federer’s consistent service and some really uncalled for unforced errors from Raonic, whose doubt fault were raising eyebrows – more so because if a service player misses first serves, there really isn’t a way out. Federer won the 3^rd set 6-4.

In the 4^th set, the match was leveled at 5-5, Raonic won his serve and Federer was serving to stay in the set at 5-6. At 30-0, another tie-break beckoned but Raonic fought back, all this amidst a very bad fall from the Swiss who slipped on the grass but soon recovered, however a break of serve and a set loss was inevitable and Raonic won the 4^th to level 2-2, winning the set 7-5.

The last set was no thriller really as phenomenal serves from Raonic were just too hot to handle even for someone of Federer’s caliber, the Swiss was hardly managing to get the ball into play – leave apart winning points. Just one break of Federer’s serve and that was it. At one point the Swiss was leading the match 2-1 but the end result went in favor of Raonic; whom he beat just 2 years back at the same stage of the tournament – Federer lost the last 6-3.

Andy Murray vs Tomas Berdych

The next match at center court was Andy Murray versus Tomas Berdych. The kind of form that Murray has had shown in the tournament prior to this match, a loss would’ve been no less than an upset. Berdych sure has played well but maybe not as well as Murray has; the volleys and the amazing backhand has gained Murray some terrific rally points, he has almost seemed unbeatable.

Murray showed just why he’s maybe the most favorite to win the tournament, now that Raonic is in the final – whom he beat in the final of Aegon championship just prior to Wimbledon.

Murray didn’t get his serve broken even once in the semi and won comfortably 6-3 6-3 6-3, breaking Berdych in each set to ensure a safe final berth – with his career’s 2^nd Wimbledon title beckoning.

It promises to be a thriller final this, the big serving Raonic versus the complete game of Murray (John McCenroe vs Evan Lendl).
