According to stats, the current population is more than 7 billion which is predicted to increase by an alarming rate by 2030. This inception of the World Population Day dates back to the year 1987.
This historic step of celebrating the World Population Day was adapted by the then governing council of the United Nations Program. The roots of this day date back to the year 1987. When in the same year on July 11, the population of the world reached to Five Billion, there was a call to attention which is why the day was also termed as the ” Day of Five Billion”.
The World Population Day 2019 came into being in the year 1989 eventually after the Day of Five Billion. In 1990, July 11 was adopted with an official resolution 45/216 as the World Population. A total of 90 counties came forward to celebrate this day of creating awareness against the masses.

World Population Day 2019 History
The history of World Population Day 2019 date back to the year 1987. It was on the July 11 in the year 1987 when the population actually reached the 5 billion mark and thus this day was regarded as the Five Billion Day as well. Finally, the Governing Council of the United Nations Development Program declared in the year 1989 that July 11 will be celebrated as the World Population Day to enhance the importance of family planning, women health etc.
The theme of this World Population Day 2019 is to complete the unfinished business of 1994 International Conference on Population and Development which also has its 25 anniversary this year. But do we know about the ICPD?
The ICPD ie the International Conference on Population and Development was held in Cairo in the year 1994 where a total of 179 governments adopted a revolutionary action that focused on women’s reproductive health, access to safe pregnancy and birth control measures.
