However, a lot has changed since our June comparison. Apple shipped iOS 27 with Siri AI in September, launched the iPhone 18 Pro and announced its first foldable, the iPhone Duo. Meanwhile, Samsung raised Galaxy S26 list prices on October 1 and then put the phone on sale.
So this update answers two questions. First, iPhone 17 vs Galaxy S26: which one should you buy today? Second, should you skip both and get one of Apple’s newer iPhones instead? Every price below was checked on apple.com and samsung.com in October 2026.
What Has Changed Since June?
In short, Apple added new high-end iPhones but kept the iPhone 17 as its everyday model, and both companies shipped major software updates. Here is what matters for this comparison.

Samsung gives the clearer promise: seven generations of Android upgrades and seven years of security patches for the Galaxy S26, which SamMobile says runs through 2033 (SamMobile). The phone launched on Android 16 and already has Android 17 through One UI 9.
Apple does not publish a fixed number of years. Even so, its track record is strong: iOS 27 still supports the iPhone 11 and the second-generation iPhone SE, both from 2019. Therefore, in practice, both phones should stay current well into the 2030s.
