Grand Theft Auto VI, usually shortened to GTA 6, is the next mainline open-world crime game from Rockstar Games, the New York studio behind GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar is a label of Take-Two Interactive, the publicly traded company that reports on the game to investors. After two delays, the GTA 6 release date now sits less than six weeks away, so the noise around the game is louder than ever.

That noise is exactly why this guide sticks to official sources. Every fact below comes from the Rockstar Newswire, the official Grand Theft Auto VI site, the PlayStation and Xbox store listings, or Take-Two’s own financial releases, all checked on October 11, 2026. Where something is only a rumor, an estimate or a fan theory, we say so plainly, or we leave it out altogether.

When Is the GTA 6 Release Date?

GTA 6 launches on Thursday, November 19, 2026. Rockstar set that date on November 6, 2025, and the official game site still shows “Coming November 19, 2026” today.

Getting here took a while, however. The first trailer in December 2023 promised a 2025 launch. Then, on May 2, 2025, Rockstar moved the game to May 26, 2026. Six months later, it pushed it again to November 19, 2026, saying the “extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect.”

Could the GTA 6 release date slip again?

Nothing official points to another delay. In fact, Take-Two’s fiscal first-quarter 2027 report on August 7, 2026, listed Grand Theft Auto VI for November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. CEO Strauss Zelnick also cited “excitement around the November 19th launch” while the company reiterated its full-year net bookings outlook of $8.0 billion to $8.2 billion.

Since then, Rockstar has kept building toward that date. For example, it opened a collector’s box for pre-order on September 24 and detailed six in-game radio stations on October 8. Still, only Rockstar can confirm a date, so treat any “delay” post that does not link to the Newswire with suspicion.

What Is Confirmed About GTA 6, and What Is Not?

Rockstar has confirmed the date, platforms, prices, editions, pre-load timing, the two lead characters and several regions of Leonida. By contrast, it has not confirmed a PC version, a file size, a GTA 6 online mode or the size of the map.

Which Platforms Is GTA 6 On, and Is It Coming to PC?

GTA 6 is coming only to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on day one. Rockstar has not announced a PC version, and no official page lists a PC release window.

On the PlayStation side, the PlayStation Store listing tags the game as “PS5 Pro Enhanced” and states that it “will not be available for PlayStation 4 consoles.” The same listing also notes Remote Play support and DualSense features such as haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. Meanwhile, Rockstar’s own site carries a “Plays Best On PlayStation 5” badge, although Rockstar has not explained what, if anything, that means for performance.

What has Rockstar said about a PC version?

Nothing official so far. Take-Two’s latest results list only PS5 and Xbox Series X|S for the game. Historically, Rockstar has released console versions first and PC versions later, but it has not given any GTA 6 PC timeline. As a result, any specific PC date you see online is a guess. How Much Does GTA 6 Cost? Editions and Pre-Order Bonuses

GTA 6 costs $79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition on the US PlayStation Store. Both editions include the Vintage Vice City Pack, one month of GTA+ for digital pre-orders, and seven days of pre-loading.

What is in the Vintage Vice City Pack?

The pre-order bonus includes a two-tone ’55 Vapid Stanier sedan with a garage at Ocean Beach, retro outfits and hairstyles for both Jason and Lucia, and a weapon pattern. Rockstar says every pre-order and purchase made before November 20 qualifies, so you do not need to pre-order to get it.

Is there a GTA 6 collector’s edition?

Yes, but it does not include the game. On September 24, Rockstar opened pre-orders for The Goodtime State: Vice City Collection, a limited collector’s box that arrives on November 19. Inside, you get a Macca the Gator figure, GTA VI Oakley Frogskins sunglasses, a New Era snapback, a poster of the full Leonida landscape and more. Rockstar states clearly that the game is sold separately.

When Can You Pre-Load GTA 6, and How Big Is the Download?

Pre-loading opens on November 12, 2026, one week before the GTA 6 release date. However, Rockstar, Sony and Microsoft have not published an official file size yet.

According to the pre-order announcement, digital buyers can start pre-loading on November 12 so they can play the moment the game unlocks on November 19. Notably, the physical version also goes on sale November 12, and the box holds a download code rather than a game disc. In practice, that means every copy needs a download, whether you buy it online or in a store.

Who Are Jason and Lucia? The GTA 6 Story So Far

GTA 6 follows two leads, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, who get pulled into a criminal conspiracy across Leonida after “an easy score goes wrong.” Players can switch between them, according to coverage of the Extended Look.

Rockstar’s official synopsis says the pair “have always known the deck is stacked against them” and must rely on each other to make it out alive. Beyond that, the Only in Leonida section of the official site fills in their backstories:

• Jason Duval: Grew up around grifters and crooks, served a stint in the Army, then ended up in the Leonida Keys working for local drug runners.
• Lucia Caminos: Learned to fight from her father, landed in the Leonida Penitentiary while fighting for her family, and now wants the good life her mom dreamed of since their days in Liberty City.

Supporting characters Rockstar has revealed

• Cal Hampton: Jason’s conspiracy-minded friend who listens in on Coast Guard radio.
• Boobie Ike: A Vice City legend with a real estate, strip club and recording studio empire.
• Dre’Quan Priest: Boobie’s partner in the label Only Raw Records.
• Real Dimez: Rap duo Bae-Luxe and Roxy, now signed to Only Raw.
• Raul Bautista: A seasoned bank robber who recruits talent for big scores.
• Brian Heder: An old-school Keys drug runner who lets Jason live in one of his properties.

What Do We Know About the GTA 6 Map?

GTA 6 takes place in Leonida, Rockstar’s fictional take on Florida, with a modern-day Vice City at its center. Rockstar has named several regions, but it has not shared an official map size.

The official site’s “Only in Leonida” page highlights six destinations. In addition, the Ultimate Edition descriptions mention smaller locations, which gives a sense of how varied the state will be.

Other named places include Ocean Beach, Washington Beach, Southside Vice City, Stockyard, Lake Leonida, Gambit Bay and Watson Bay. Meanwhile, the Extended Look showed an in-game map that renders buildings in 3D, according to Engadget’s breakdown. Claims that the map is “twice the size of GTA V” come from fans, not Rockstar.

What Have the GTA 6 Trailers and Extended Look Shown?

Rockstar has released two numbered trailers and one long gameplay showcase, “Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look.” It has not announced a third trailer.

• Trailer 1 (December 4, 2023): Rockstar posted it a day early after a leak, and it set a 2025 launch window.
• Trailer 2 (May 6, 2025): Went deeper into Jason, Lucia and Leonida, with all footage captured on PS5.
• An Extended Look (August 27, 2026): A 26-minute showcase (per Engadget) that premiered on Netflix and then reached YouTube at 9 p.m. ET, “captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5.”

Unlike the trailers, the Extended Look focused on gameplay. For instance, Engadget noted character swapping between Jason and Lucia, a six-star wanted level, quick weapon swapping, a carjacking minigame and activities such as fishing, hunting, kayaking and scuba diving. What about music and radio?

On October 8, Rockstar detailed six radio stations, including Flash FM, Cocoteo FM and Back Country Radio. It also confirmed on-demand podcasts and in-game headphones, a first for the series. Separately, Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, with 34 original tracks, arrives on November 19.

Will GTA 6 Have Online Multiplayer?

Not at launch, based on official wording. Rockstar calls GTA 6 “a single player experience,” and PlayStation’s FAQ answers the multiplayer question the same way.

That said, GTA Online is not going away. On Take-Two’s August 2026 earnings call, Zelnick said “we do expect to support GTA Online going forward,” as PCGamesN reported. Also, the GTA+ month in GTA 6 pre-orders currently delivers GTA Online perks. Rockstar has not said whether a GTA 6 version of GTA Online will follow, so anything beyond that is speculation.
