‘Rustom’ , the most awaited action thriller movie of Akshay Kumar, released this week on 12th August 2016. ‘Rustom’ is produced by famed director ‘Neeraj Pandey’ who has directed Akshay in ‘Special Chabbis’ and ‘Baby’. The movie is released on around 2300 screens all over India, the screen count, however, is less as compared to Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Mohenjo-Daro’. But still, it manages to get a good response from the audience.
The story of ‘Rustom’ is based on the Nanavati case of 1959. Akshay Kumar played the role of a naval officer Rustom Pavri who is happily married to Cynthia, role being played by Ileana D’Cruz. Rustom finds one day that his wife is cheating on him with Vikram Makhija, a role played by Arjan Bajwa. Rustom is unable to see his wife with Vikram and ends up shooting Vikram. Then how the events take a turn and Rustom’s prosecution is the main idea of the movie.

The movie also features Esha Gupta who would be seen portraying a grey character for the first time in her career. Her performance is also a great asset to the movie. Other actors in the movie are Usha Nadkarni, Sachin Khedekar, Kumud Mishra who have done justice to the roles they were offered.
This time, Neeraj got into producer’s seat and Tinu Desai has directed the movie. Rustom has been produced at a cost of 50 crores and additional 10-15 crores were spent on the promotions. The movie, however, is expected to collect its making cost.
The movie registered 50 % occupancy in morning and matinee shows of the first day. Some of the single screens and multiplexes also seen the house full. It is getting very good response from northern parts of the country, Delhi, and Mumbai. The movie, however, have the advantage of the extended weekend with Independence Day on 15 of August.
Due to the extra holiday and being a movie based on patriotism, ‘Rustom’ can manage to do remarkably well at box office. The word of mouth for the movie can help the movie to do a good business. The story, performances, background score have added value to the movie.
With comparatively less screen count then ‘Mohenjo-Daro’, Rustom has managed to do quite well at the box office due to a good script, able direction, good music and some tremendous performances.
Another factor that was in favor of ‘Rustom’ was the support it received from the film industry as various actors and actress came forward to promote ‘Rustom’. ‘Rustom’ has added one more medal to Akshay Kumar’s acting career and we are sure to see some more outstanding performances by the actor in coming future.
