World Post Day History
The origins of the postal services dates back to the time when the horse driven cars and carts were used to deliver messages to people around the world in the 16th century and the 17th century. The idea of setting up a postal service came up in the year 1863 when Montgomery Blair who was a Postmaster General in the United States of America called in conference of about 15 countries both including U.S.A and Europe. Many policies were laid down during this meeting but a official agreement was not made.
Finally in the month of September in 1874, Heinrich von Stephan senior postmaster of German origin called in a Conference of about 22 countries in Switzerland. Finally the General Postal Union was signed in the month of October. Eventually, the name was changed to Union Postal Union in the year 1878. In 1969, all the delegates in Tokyo, Japan conference signed the agreement to celebrate October 9th as the World Post Day 2019.
